Description:

The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites
applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer or
Assistant Professor in an area oriented towards experimental linguistics.
Desirable expertise includes experimental design, statistics, and
quantitative analysis, ideally coupled with teaching experience and/or
research interests in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics. The area of
specialization is open as long as the candidate's research is conducted
based on experimental work, dealing with theoretical issues of any
subfield(s) of linguistics.

The successful candidate will contribute to shaping the department's new
undergraduate track in theoretical and applied linguistics. The candidate
will also get involved with the post-graduate programs offered in the
department. Elective courses to be taught depend on the candidate's area of
specialization.

For all academic ranks, an earned doctorate from a recognized university is
required. According to the Law of the University of Cyprus, all candidates
must have successfully completed their Ph.D. degree by the date of
application. 

Requirements for each academic rank depend on the candidate's years of
academic experience, the research record and scientific contributions,
involvement in teaching and in the development of high quality
undergraduate and graduate curricula. The minimum requirements for each

The language of instruction is English. Knowledge of Greek is an advantage.
Holding a citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus is not a requirement. 

The annual gross salary for these positions (including the 13th salary) is: 

Assistant Professor (Scale A13-A14): 56,202.25 Euro - 75,798.71 Euro 
Lecturer (Scale A12-A13): 47,463.52 Euro - 69,513.34 Euro 

Interested individuals must submit the following items by Monday, 14 March
2011: 

- A letter stating the academic rank or ranks for which the applicant is
interested in, the field of study, and the date when the applicant may be
able to assume duties in the event of selection. 
- A full Curriculum Vitae (6 copies). 
- A brief summary of previous work and a statement of plans for future
research (up to 1,500 words; 6 copies). 
- A list of publications (6 copies). 
- Copies of the three most representative publications (6 copies). 
- Certified copies of degree certificates. 
All written materials must be submitted in English.

In addition, the applicants must ask three academic referees to send
letters of recommendation directly to the University. The names and
addresses of these referees must be submitted with the application since
additional confidential information may be sought. The letters of
recommendation must be received by the University by Monday, 14 March 2011. 

Applications and other documents submitted in the past will not be
considered and must be re-submitted. Incomplete applications will not be
considered. 

Applications, other documents, and reference letters must be delivered
either by hand to the Human Resources Service of the University of Cyprus
until Monday, 14 March 2011 the latest, or by post to the address provided
below. They will be considered valid provided they are received by the
Human Resources Service by 21 March 2011 the latest (if stamped by the post
office by 14 March 2011).
