Description:

The Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) is the Institute for
linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University. ). LUCL is
looking for: 

Assistant Professor (m/f) (19 hours a week) in Italian Language and
Linguistics, 
vacancy number: 11-008 

starting on 1 September 2011.  

The appointment is for 2 years, after which it will be made permanent if
performance is satisfactory.  

Candidates with a research specialty in Italian linguistics and/or
dialectology, preferably but not exclusively in sociolinguistics,
historical Italian linguistics and/or phonology, are invited to apply.
Candidates must prove that they are able to interact with linguists from
other areas of specialization present in the department of Italian language
and culture as well as in LUCL.

Tasks
- teaching and developing courses of Italian language and linguistics at
the undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) levels in the department of
Italian Language and Culture; 
- participation in ongoing research at LUCL; 
- research in Italian linguistics and/or dialectology; 
- managerial and organizational responsibilities within the department of
Italian Language and Culture.  

Requirements
- a doctoral degree in Italian linguistics (completed by the start of the
appointment); 
- native or near-native knowledge of Italian; 
- experience with teaching Italian language and linguistics at the
undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) levels; 
proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations); 
- an active research profile, preferably in Italian
sociolinguistics/phonology/history of Italian and/or Italian dialectology,
with a developing record of publications; 
- a proven ability to contribute to a scholarly environment of
international research excellence; 
- experience with writing grant proposals;
- advanced knowledge of English.  

Conditions of employment
The successful applicant will be appointed for a period of two years, after
which the contract will be made permanent after a positive evaluation of
capabilities and compatibility. The gross monthly salary will be in
accordance with the Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities for academic
personnel, and will range, depending on qualifications and experience,
between 3.195 and 4.374 Euro, based upon a full-time appointment according
to salary scale 11.
