The University of Bern offers an

Assistant Professorship in English Historical Linguistics

in the Department of English Languages and Literatures starting 1st
February 2012 with a limited employment period of four years (plus two
additional years upon positive evaluation).

Applicants should have a strong research and publication profile in the
study of language change in English, and be able to teach courses
addressing a range of different time periods, including Old/Middle English.
Candidates should have research expertise that permits exchange with other
disciplines in the humanities and cultural studies, as well as participate
in interdisciplinary co-operations (e.g. with the University's Centre for
the Study of Language in Society). Previous experience in negotiating
external funding would be an asset. Academic requirements for this position
are a completed PhD plus a 'Habilitation' or equivalent qualification (e.g.
a second book-length publication, a cluster of international journal
articles or a significant funded research project).
