Call Deadline: 31-Dec-2011

Meeting Description:

Workshop on Finnish Syntax
9. 3. 2012 Helsinki

Finnish syntax differs in many ways drastically from other European languages. The case system, the aspectual system, quantificational case, polarity case, impersonals, the structure of NP, long distance case assignment, wh-snowball movement, mixed head-final and head-first word ordering and genuinely cross-categorical possessive phi-agreement are examples of properties which set Finnish and its close relatives off from many other well-studied languages.

Invited Speakers:

Anders Holmberg: The syntax of yes and no in Finnish in a comparative perspective
Anne Vainikka: The possessive suffix in Finnish

Call for Papers:

We invite papers for 40 minute oral presentations (30 min presentation + 10 min discussion) that concerns any aspect of Finnish syntax. The work may be empirical or theoretical, and can be presented in any theoretical framework. The workshop is organized by the Cognitive Science Unit, University of Helsinki.

Submission and Deadlines:

If you would like to participate, please send an anonymous abstract (two-sided A4) to the conference email by the end of 2011. A decision will be given by the end of January.
