Description:

Haute école de santé Arc - University of Applied Sciences Western 
Switzerland is accepting applications, in its Research Unit (Neuchâtel 
campus), for one PhD position (100%).

Activities and responsibilities:
The doctoral candidate will complete his or her thesis in the framework of the 
project New on the job: relevance-making and assessment practices of 
interactional competences in young nurses' hospital telephone calls. This 
study involves longitudinal analysis of new nursing graduates' interactions 
during their first six months of work at a hospital and aims to examine the 
practices through which the nurses are socialized professionally. The doctoral 
candidate will also prepare presentations and publications based on the 
research results and help organize the team's administrative tasks and 
scientific activities.

This position was created in the framework of the Sinergia project 
Interactional competences in institutional practices: young people between 
school and the workplace (IC-You), which is supported by the Swiss National 
Science Foundation. It offers a particularly stimulating interdisciplinary work 
environment as well as a complete postgraduate program (doctorate in 
sociology at the University of Fribourg).

Requirements:
-  Licence or master's degree in social sciences, human sciences or nursing 
sciences
-  Strong interest in scientific research in the area of talk-in-interaction in 
institutional settings (conversation analysis, multimodal analysis, 
interactional linguistics)
-  Mastery of French and English (oral and written)
-  Ability to use IT and audiovisual tools
-  Sense of initiative, good organizational skills and ability to work on a team

Beginning date:
January 1st, 2012. The contract will cover a maximum period of three years.
