Research Fellow (Ref 8924)

Salary from £29,249 to £38,140 per annum
(subject to experience)

Applications are invited for a research post in the Surrey Morphology 
Group, for a period of two and a half years, available from 1 October 
2012. This post is for the project 'Endangered complexity: Inflectional 
classes in Oto-Manguean languages', co-funded by the Economic 
and Social Research Council and the Arts and Humanities Research 
Council. The project directors are Prof. Greville G. Corbett, Dr 
Matthew Baerman, Prof. Dunstan Brown and Dr Enrique L. Palancar.

The job will involve (i) working collaboratively in the construction and 
maintenance of a large lexical and morphological database of 
different Oto-Manguean languages together with the creation and 
maintenance of a website dedicated to these languages; (ii) 
elaborating an annotated bibliography on inflectional classes; and 
(iii) contributing to joint papers. 

Applicants should hold a PhD or expect to complete all requirements 
for the PhD prior to appointment. Applicants should have a solid 
background in one or both of the following areas: linguistic typology 
and morphological theory. Knowledge of Oto-Manguean languages 
is not required, though it would be a distinct advantage as will be 
having experience in the creation of linguistic databases. The ability 
to understand written Spanish is desirable. Candidates must have 
the ability to work independently while functioning as part of a 
research team.
