Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Phonology; Syntax

Call Deadline: 11-Jun-2012

Meeting Description:

CASTL, The Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (http://castl.uit.no/), is celebrating its tenth year, and preparing for its future as an integral part of an expanded Department of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Tromsø. CASTL will mark this milestone with a conference highlighting its contributions at the forefront of linguistic research, to be held on September 12-14, 2012.

The focus of the program will be presentations by CASTL researchers and some selected guests, including:

Confirmed Invited Speakers:

Noam Chomsky
Virginia Valian
Keren Rice
Angelika Kratzer
David Odden
Alec Marantz
Antonella Sorace
Cecilia Poletto
Jeroen van Craenenbroeck

2nd Call for Posters:

CASTL's celebratory Decennium conference will include a poster session for work which is related to CASTL research. Posters will be selected on the basis of anonymized one-page abstracts (data and references will not be counted against the one-page limit; thus, for each line of example sentences in the abstract you may be credited a line of text on a following page, and references will similarly not be counted against the length limit).

To be selected, an abstract must both show high quality and a high degree of relevance to work conducted at CASTL over the last ten years, in any subdiscipline, including syntax (nanosyntax, first phase syntax and argument structure, cartography and spatial expressions, microcomparative dialect syntax, etc.), phonology (in particular relating to our substance-free, minimalist perspective, and the phonology of the Saami languages), or acquisition (relating to our research into microcues, microvariation in the input, and multilingualism).

Abstracts should be uploaded in pdf form before the deadline, which is Monday, June 11 at midnight our time (that is 3PM on Monday in California, but 10 AM on Tuesday in New Zealand). Follow links from the conference website. Please be sure to upload a pdf, do not simply paste the abstract into the text window (please do not upload a whole paper, just an abstract).

The scientific committee in charge of the program is as follows:

Syntax:

Tarald Taraldsen
Gillian Ramchand
Peter Svenonius
Michal Starke

Phonology:

Bruce Morén-Duolljá
Martin Krämer

Acquisition:

Marit Westergaard
Antonella Sorace
Kristine Bentzen
