This conference will examine the themes of Negotiation and Renegotiation in any area of French or Italian Studies. We shall examine such questions as: How do authors negotiate between seemingly conflicting themes or positions? How do texts negotiate between genres, periods, and styles? How do speakers negotiate meaning within and across languages/dialects? How do language learners negotiate acquisition?

We invite papers addressing the conference theme from a variety of perspectives within French and Italian studies and in related disciplines (art history, music, history, etc.):

Negotiation of Collective Memory
Negotiation of Textual Space and Paratext (typography and marginalia)

Hybridity (of language, ideology, etc.) as a Result of Negotiation

Phonology/Syntax 

We invite those interested in our theme to submit an abstract (300 words maximum) by email to iufritgsoconf at gmail.com before December 15, 2012. Presentations should not exceed 20 minutes. Papers may be submitted in English, French or Italian. Please include your institutional affiliation, contact information and a brief biography focusing on your work along with your abstract.
