Description:

The a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne (AGSHC) is a facutly
wide integrated graduate school, which is oriented towards a concept of the
humanities, which goes beyond the dichotomy of humanities, cultural and
natural science. An integral part of the AGSHC is the Research Lab, which
consists of two Postdoc junior research groups covering different thematic
focus areas, which are concerned with questions in the field of epistemology
and the history of science as well as in the field of anthropology and life
sciences within the interdisciplinary context of the Faculty of Arts and
Humanities. The junior research groups will be equipped adequately and work
independently.

The two AGSHC-Research Labs, Transformations of Knowledge and Transformations
of Life, have a vacancy starting from October 1, 2013 for 3 Post Doc-Positions
each (6 in total, payment according to TV-L). The research group
Transformations of Knowledge will be concerned with an understanding of the
historical dynamics of knowledge processes in the context of the specific
relationship between genesis and validity. Special emphasis is put on the
processes of transformation of knowledge. Subject of the research group
Transformations of Life will be the perception of life and its transformation,
as well as the different concepts of life involved. One task of the research
group will be to precisely examine the role of free choice of individuals and
groups in life-changing situations.

Appointment requirements are:
- A university degree and PhD in a subject, which belongs to the Faculty of
Philosophy and has a focus in one field of the Research Labs
- A proposal (2-3 pages) is required, which is concerned with a future
research project

Applications of qualified candidates are explicitly encouraged. Female
applicants with equal suitability, ability and professional achievement will
be given preference, provided that the personal qualities of another candidate
are not more appropriate for the position. Severely disabled candidates will
also be given preference in the case of overall equal aptitude and
qualifications. Part-time employment is generally possible, unless official
concerns conflict.

Applications including the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of
publications and courses taught, certificates documenting academic
qualifications, especially the PhD degree) are to be submitted no later than
May 30, 2013 to the coordinator of the a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the
Humanities Cologne, University of Cologne.
