Focus: The South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) based at the University of Wisconsin – Madison is offering intensive summer courses at the elementary and intermediate levels in the following South Asian languages: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Marathi, Pashto, Sanskrit, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, Tibetan and Urdu.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate

Special Qualifications:
SASLI is open to undergraduates, graduate students, and non-student professionals. Must be 18 years of age by June 16, 2014.

Description:
SASLI offers intensive language study for 8 weeks during the summer.  The program is equivalent to one year's worth of language study.  Classes are held on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Instructions for submitting a complete application packet and the SASLI web application can be found on the SASLI website at sasli.wisc.edu. Please apply or encourage your students to apply as soon as possible, as faculty hiring is
based on student interest. Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Tuition Explanation: SASLI offers $1000 Fee Remissions to those who are unable to obtain funding
from other non-loan sources.

Financial Aid: Applications accepted until 15-Feb-2014
Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are available for qualified applicants.  The FLAS application deadline is February 15, 2014. SASLI also offers Half/Full Fee Remissions. The Half/Full Fee Remission application deadline is March 15, 2014.

Financial Aid Instructions:
FLAS and Half/Full Fee Remissions require a separate application, including letters of recommendation, transcripts, and statement of purpose.  Information and the applications can be found on the website.

The SASLI $1000 Fee Remission does not require a separate application. At the end of the SASLI application is a question where applicants can indicate whether or not they would like to be considered for this Fee Remission. By checking “yes”, the application will automatically be considered once all application materials have been received at the SASLI office.

Registration Instructions:
Step 1: Fill out the online application form.
Step 2: Pay the non-refundable application fee immediately after submitting the form.
Step 3: Send a copy of your most recent transcripts (unofficial or official) to the SASLI office (for current students and those enrolled in the last five years).
Step 4: Write a short statement as to why you would like to attend SASLI (one page maximum). If no transcripts are included, please address this in your statement.
Step 5: Email your transcripts and other materials to sasli at southasia.wisc.edu.
