The Texas Foreign Language Education Conference (TexFLEC) at The University of Texas at Austin is an annual conference that brings together researchers, educators, and students in the fields of foreign language education, TEFL/TESL (Teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language), linguistics, and applied linguistics. TexFLEC provides conference participants with the opportunity to share diverse up-to-date ideas.

Bridging the gap between research and practice is an inevitable challenge in the field of foreign/second language pedagogy. TexFLEC unites scholars and educators from diverse contexts who strive to connect research findings to classroom practices, thus shaping the future direction of language education. TexFLEC welcomes research studies and practice-oriented presentations that clearly establish strong connections between theory and practice in diverse contexts. Our goal is to offer an interdisciplinary forum for all those interested in research findings with implications for the classroom as well as those interested in pedagogical approaches to language learning grounded on empirical findings.

Call for Papers:

The TexFLEC Committee at The University of Texas is pleased to announce that we are now accepting proposals for the 15th annual conference that brings together researchers, educators, and students in the fields of foreign language education, TEFL/TESL, linguistics, and applied linguistics.

Proposals can be submitted online:

http://www.utexas.edu/cola/centers/tlc/texflec-2014/Proposal%20Submission.php

Interested participants are encouraged to submit a proposal for one of the following session types:

20-minute Research-Based Presentation:

A 20 minute formal talk addressing a small audience followed by a short Q&A/discussion. May be original empirical research as well as an original theoretical investigation by the presenter(s).

20-minute Practice-Oriented Presentation:

A 20 minute practical or ''hands-on'' presentation by the presenter(s) followed by a short minute Q&A/discussion. It can be a practical demonstration of a theory or an application of pedagogical methodology still in the developmental stage.

45-minute Symposium (Research-Based Presentation):

Presenters from various perspectives formally present and discuss original empirical research, a theoretical investigation and/or commentary papers on research topics. 45 minute presentation followed by a short Q&A/discussion.

45-minute Workshop (Practice-Oriented Presentation):

A 45 minute practical demonstration of a theory or an application of a pedagogical methodology, followed by a short Q&A/discussion. Presenter(s) should engage the audience through experiential learning techniques.

Poster Presentation:

Posters will be on display during the conference, and a separate session will be dedicated for poster-presenters to be present in order to explain their work and answer questions. Posters can be used to gain valuable feedback on theses, dissertations or research. This is a good format for describing a work in progress, or a new process or idea.

Please review these additional instructions before submitting your proposal:

Note: Do not include identifying information (such as presenters' names and institutions and published works) in any fields other than in the Name of Submitter(s) field!

Title of Proposal (≤10 words): Please be sure the title accurately reflects the session content in order to be clear to the intended audience.

Abstract (≤50 words): Please identify the audience that you would recommend attend, and state your presentation's content and quality in a clear and succinct way.

Session Description (≤300 words): Please describe in detail the elements of your paper or presentation (such as the background, objectives, research methodology, conclusion, and implications of your work)

Proposals received before December 1, 2013 will receive priority with the final deadline for proposal submission on December 31, 2013.
