The University of Reading's School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences (http://www.reading.ac.uk/pcls/) is proud to announce a new Bachelor of Science (Hons) programme in Language Sciences and Psychology. 

Bringing together the University of Reading’s internationally recognised expertise in Clinical Language Sciences and in Psychology, this three year programme offers students a multidisciplinary approach to the study of mind and communication, including language development and its disorders. The programme offers core modules in linguistics, psychology, and speech and language therapy. Students develop a range of communication and research skills that are transferable across a wide range of client groups and settings. In addition to covering empirical and theoretical aspects of language sciences and psychology, the programme offers clinical modules involving observation of speech and language therapy in practice in the School’s state-of-the-art Speech & Language Therapy clinic . The degree leads to graduate basis for accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS). As well as providing the career flexibility available to all psychology and linguistics graduates, the degree is an excellent platform for postgraduate training in speech and language therapy.

The programme benefits from the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences’ excellent facilities that include dedicated experimental psychology laboratories including baby lab and eye-tracking labs and the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (http://www.reading.ac.uk/cinn/), which provides EEG and advanced brain imaging facilities including a 3Tesla magnetic resonance imager for structural and functional imaging and high performance computing facilities for advanced analysis and modeling.

Courses that comprise the three year programme:

Year 1 (three terms):
Grammar and Meaning 	        (10 credits)		
Phonetics and Phonology 	        (20 credits)			
Clinical Studies 		                (10 credits)				
Psychological Research 	        (20 credits)				
Cognition and Learning 	        (10 credits)			
Developmental Psychology	(10 credits)			
Perception			                (10 credits)		
Introduction to Neuroscience	(10 credits)			

Optional Modules                        (20 credits)
Students may either choose 20 optional credits from any available from Psychology or Applied Linguistics or they may choose a Modern Language from the ISLC.

Year 2 (three terms):
Grammar & Meaning 2				                (10 credits)
Experimental Methods in Language Sciences	(10 credits)
Careers in Speech & Language Therapy 
and Psychology    			                                (20 credits)
Research Methods & Data Analysis			(20 credits)
Developmental and Social Psychology		        (20 credits)
Cognition and Neuroscience				        (20 credits)
Optional Modules                                                        (20 credits)

Students may either choose 20 optional credits from Language Sciences from the following list, a Modern Language from the ISLC or Sociolinguistics from English Language & Applied Linguistics :
