Description:

Two Doctoral Research Fellowships (SKO 1017) are available at the Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) at the University of Oslo (UiO), starting March 2014.

MultiLing is a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway and opened on June 1, 2013. It aims to generate scientific knowledge on individual and societal multilingualism across the lifespan that will address the opportunities and challenges multilingualism presents for the individual in the family, in educational and other institutional settings, and in society in general. MultiLing has a network of national and international collaborative partners working on multilingualism at various research institutions. The research profile of MultiLing is reflected in three mutually dependent and interrelated themes:

Theme 1: Multilingual competence across the lifespan.

Theme 2: Multilingual language choice and practices across the lifespan.

Theme 3: Management of multilingualism across the lifespan: Language policy and ideologies.

MultiLing seeks to recruit PhD candidates with excellent research qualifications who will work within the range of the Center’s research profile. The two doctoral research fellowships are open in regards to theme. Although projects may be firmly anchored within one theme, interdisciplinary projects that successfully draw on perspectives from more than one theme will be given priority.

Successful candidates must participate in the research training program organized by the Faculty of Humanities (cf. regulations and supplementary provisions for the faculty’s researcher education) and must engage in the designated research activities on a full-time basis. The purpose of the PhD Research Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a doctoral dissertation (monograph or article-based) to be defended at a public defense for the doctoral degree. The successful candidates will be automatically accepted for the research-training program (PhD program) at the Humanities Faculty, UiO.

The salaried positions are available for a period of three years starting from March 1, 2014.

Application Deadline: 07-Jan-2014
