Description:

One open Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) is available at the Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) at the University of Oslo (UiO), starting in March 2014.

MultiLing is a Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway and opened on June 1, 2013. It aims to generate scientific knowledge on individual and societal multilingualism across the lifespan that will address the opportunities and challenges multilingualism presents for the individual in the family, in educational and other institutional settings, and in society in general. MultiLing has a network of national and international collaborative partners working on multilingualism at various research institutions. The research profile of MultiLing is reflected in three mutually dependent and interrelated themes:

Theme 1: Multilingual competence across the lifespan
Theme 2: Multilingual language choice and practices across the lifespan
Theme 3: Management of multilingualism across the lifespan: Language policy and ideologies

MultiLing seeks to recruit postdoctoral candidates with excellent research qualifications who will work within the range of the Center's research profile.

The postdoctoral fellowship is open in regards to theme. Although the project may be firmly anchored within one theme, interdisciplinary projects that successfully draw on perspectives from more than one theme will be given priority.

The successful candidates are expected to strengthen the relevant research areas addressed in the project description, to contribute to and participate in the various workshops, conferences and activities organized by MultiLing, and to be active members of the MultiLing team in Oslo.

The positions are available for a period of three years starting from March 1, 2014. There is a 10% duty component devoted to teaching or other qualifying work for MultiLing. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
