Meeting Description:

The Linguistic Association of the Southwest (LASSO) will hold its 43rd annual meeting in San Diego, California hosted by California State University-San Marcos. The 2014 conference theme is:  Heritage languages (of the Southwest) in the era of e-learning. The plenary speaker will be Kim Potowski from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Presidential Address will be by Israel Sanz-Sanchez. One featured panel will be presented by Andrew Ross, colleagues from Hispanidades and students from Arizona State University.

Call for Papers:

We welcome abstracts for papers in all areas of linguistics. Abstracts for papers or panels on Heritage Languages in the era of e-learning, and particularly those Heritage languages found in the Southwest U.S., are especially welcome. Proposals for complete panels with multiple speakers are also welcome but must fit within the 90 minute time frame of the conference presentations.
 
Submissions by graduate students are welcome, and students are eligible for the Helmut Esau Prize, which includes a $400 cash award.
 
Abstracts should be 250-500 words, single-spaced in 12 point Times New Roman font. Abstracts should summarize the main points and indicate key aspects of the data and methodology. Use of special font items should be kept to a minimum. In general, omit the bibliography. Abstracts will be distributed via the Internet as received. At the beginning of the abstract, write the title of the paper. At the end of the abstract, repeat the title and also list the author's name (if more than one author, list names in the order they should appear in the program), academic affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, cellular phone number, and email. If the first author, who will be point of contact for the submission, will not be available at his/her usual address or email during the summer, provide summer contact information in the cover email.
