Description:

H5’s Data Group is looking for a Data Science Engineer to support eDiscovery and document review projects for our legal and information governance clients.  The ideal candidate will have advanced data processing, analysis, and presentation abilities, strong communication skills, and a solid grasp of statistics. Experience writing clear and reusable code is a must. We are a small team positioned to have a large impact on H5’s offerings, our differentiation in the market, and our clients’ success.  The Data Group uses a varied toolset which is not restricted to any particular language or framework.  Our work is balanced between executing fast-moving projects full of intriguing data, responding to immediate requests, and proactively designing tools for emerging needs.

Responsibilities:
- Perform complex data manipulation and analytics for legal eDiscovery data (email, instant messages, spreadsheets, and other electronic documents)
- Work with internal project teams to identify and respond to complex technical needs
- Clean and process semi-structured and unstructured data
- Analyze data and present findings verbally, in writing, and/or with visualizations
- Support document classification efforts with machine learning technology
- Ensure a documented, high quality process and result

Competencies:
- Aptitude for effective, innovative problem solving
- Ability to craft collaborative solutions for technical and non-technical users
- Respect for deadlines while supporting multiple projects
- Confidence to work independently and take ownership of technical details for an entire project

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an analytical or scientific field such as mathematics, statistics, computational linguistics, or computer science
- 3 to 5 years’ professional experience in data science or related fields
- Experience with scientific computing toolsets such as SciPy, NumPy, Pandas, R, Octave
- Experience with machine learning and NLP tools applied towards unstructured text data, such as Python’s NLTK
- Data visualization experience using tools such as matplotlib, gnuplot, D3, etc.
- Strong text hacking skills using scripting languages and Linux command line
- Experience with graph and network analysis a plus
- Experience with Hadoop a plus
