The University of Southampton, one of the UK's leading research-intensive
universities and a member of the Russell Group, invites applications for two
positions of Lecturer in Applied Linguistics from candidates with a national
and international track record of teaching, research and publication in
English Language Education and in Global Englishes.

The successful candidates will have established research/ teaching expertise
in one or more of the following areas:

(i) English Language Education, including language teaching pedagogy, language
teacher education, curriculum design, language for specific purposes, online
learning, learner autonomy or other area related to English Language
Education;

(ii) Global Englishes, including English as a lingua franca, the
sociolinguistics of the English language, and language policy, planning or
multilingualism in relation to English as an international language.

The two posts will complement and strengthen the existing teaching and
research expertise of staff in Modern Languages in the Faculty of Humanities,
and contribute to the work of the Centre for Linguistics, Language Education
and Acquisition Research and the Centre for Global Englishes. The successful
candidates will have a developing reputation for research, evidenced through a
strong publications record and potential to attract research funding. They
will be expected to develop a programme of research and impact activities of
the highest quality, suitable for submission to future national evaluations of
research excellence. The appointees will have experience of teaching and
supervision at postgraduate level. They will supervise research students in
English Language Education and Global Englishes, teach research-led
postgraduate and undergraduate modules and contribute to team-taught modules,

They will also contribute to the efficient management and administration of
Modern Languages and the Faculty of Humanities, and to the development of the
Faculty internationalisation strategy, through collaboration with the
university’s international HE partners.
