Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Stockholm University, Sweden is seeking a Ph.D. student for a position in Computational Linguistics starting in January 2015. 

All subfields of Computational Linguistics where we have active research are relevant, but we especially welcome applicants interested in either of the following topics: 
- Computational Models of Linguistic Typology, for example, using massively parallel corpora;
- Computational Models of First Language Acquisition.

Requirements:
The basic eligibility requirements stipulates that the candidate has a completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 must be in second-cycle courses, or possess a second-cycle degree, a corresponding degree from outside Sweden or corresponding qualifications. Specific entry requirements within Computational Linguistics stipulates that at least 30 of the 60 ECTS credits on the second cycle level should be within Computational Linguistics and should include a degree project for a one year Master's degree (Swedish "Magister"). Naturally, applicants with a two years Master's degree and degree project in Computational Linguistics are also eligible.

How to Apply:
The application should be made using the web form at Stockholm University Job Application (Ref No. SU FV-2396-14) and should include the following documents:
- application letter (section 1);
- curriculum vitae (CV) containing information on your degrees and other education, employment and publications, degree works, language skills and references (section 2);
- certified copies of diplomas or equivalent documenting eligibility and academic qualifications (section 4);
- research plan (maximum 15,000 characters including spaces) of the planned dissertation's thematic area, problems, theoretical points, sources and methods (section 3);
- copy of your degree project (thesis) (Referred to as "independent works/essays" at Stockholm University Job Application Ref No. SU FV-2396-14, section 4);
- references (section 4);
- publications (Referred to as "Other documents" that you want to submit for evaluation at Stockholm University Job Application, Ref. No. SU FV-2396-14, section 4).

The selection criteria include documented experience within Computational Linguistics, analytical ability, creativity, initiative, independence, and teamwork performance. Programming experience is required and should also be documented. Apart from the stipulated background in Computational Linguistics, documented familiarity with General Linguistics and Phonetics is expected, and interdisciplinary work involving, for example, Computer Science is a plus. The research plan is evaluated with regard to relevance, originality and feasibility.
