Meeting Description:

The Centre of Applied Linguistics and the Department of English Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia are pleased to announce the 3rd International Symposium on Language for International Communication to be held in Riga on May 26 - 27, 2016, in continuation of academic and scientific cooperation started by the two preceding symposiums in 2011 and 2013.

The symposium, organized as a two-day interdisciplinary conference, endeavours to establish links between disciplines concerned with the instrumental use of language in international communication and with the study of its acquisition, the focus being on linguistic capacity building for international scientific and professional communication.

The aim of the forum is to bring together scholars, practitioners and novice researchers from different linguistic backgrounds and disciplines for a discussion on the role of languages in international communication in the contemporary world. We invite researchers from all over the world to share their research results and new ideas to encourage and promote cross-cultural cooperation.

The focus of the forum is on sub-fields of general and applied linguistics, such as semantics, pragmatics, text and corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, language acquisition, lexicology, lexicography, translation and interpretation, and other.

The languages of the symposium are English, French, German and Spanish. Latvian and other European languages are welcome for informal communication at the symposium.

Conference Fee:

The conference fee is 94.00 Euro, and it includes conference materials, the opening reception, coffee breaks and the publication of the LINCS 2016 Proceedings. 

The conference fee is payable by bank transfer by April 15, 2016. Details about the payment and the deadline will be sent together with the notification of acceptance.

Late registration fee is 110.00 Euro.

Registration opened from February 15, 2016 (see the registration form on the symposium website for details). 
Online registration closed on April 30, 2016.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts of 200 to 250 words should be sent by January 15, 2016  in .doc format via the EasyAbs system: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/lincs2016    

Abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. Please submit two copies of the abstract (see abstract submission guidelines below). The accepted abstracts will be published online on the symposium website.

It is expected that the paper presented at LINCS 2016 is original and has not been previously presented or published. The notification of acceptance and the inclusion of the paper in the conference programme will be emailed by January 31, 2016.

The deadline for submission of the manuscript electronically for reviewing: June 20, 2016.

All the papers with positive reviews will be published in the LINCS 2016 Proceedings on the symposium website. 

Selected papers will be published in the Baltic Journal of English Language, Literature and Culture -  a multidisciplinary international scientific journal in general linguistics, applied linguistics, literature and culture.
