We are pleased to invite papers for a special issue of Laboratory Phonology on Prosodic Variability.

This special issue was inspired by papers at the Experimental and Theoretical Advances in Prosody (ETAP 3). A special focus of ETAP 3 was prosodic variability. Prosodic processing presents a challenge for researchers because of the many sources of variability in how prosodic phenomena are realized. A long-standing, critical issue in the field is understanding the nature of such variability in prosodic information as well as understanding how listeners maintain their prosodic representations despite the variable input. This Special Issue focuses on theoretical, experimental, and computational approaches to prosodic variability.

This is an open call and submissions are not restricted to papers presented at the conference. We are interested in soliciting contributions from a wide range of fields such as linguistics, psycholinguists, and computer science.

Reviewers do not know the identities of authors, and authors do not know the identities of reviewers. The editors will ensure that all personal information is removed from the properties of electronic files before they are sent to reviewers and authors. The author should take care to omit self-citations in the work that would be easily identified as such. Acknowledgments that reveal the identity of the author(s) should be suppressed in the submitted manuscript, and may be added back in after the paper has been accepted for publication.

2) To make a submission to be included in this special issue, authors are asked to do follow the steps in completing the submission process
a) State on title page of your paper that the paper is submitted for consideration of submission in the special issue on prosodic variability 
b) Send an email to Duane Watson dgwatson at illinois.edu and CC the journal editor journal at labphon.org, confirming your submission of your contribution to the special issue

3) This special issue is going to be published in an open-access format. However, no publication fee will be charged to authors.
