Call for Course Proposals – LSA Summer Linguistic Institute 2017

The next LSA Summer Linguistic Institute will be held at the University of
Kentucky from July 5 – August 1, 2017. We are currently accepting proposals
for additional courses to be offered during the Institute.

All Institute courses will last for four weeks, with two 110-minute class
periods each week (for a total of eight class sessions). The theme of the
Institute is Language across Space and Time, but we are interested in
proposals for courses in any area of linguistics (including those unrelated to
the theme). We are particularly interested in proposals for clusters of
courses that relate to one another, especially when taught by a group of
scholars interested in using the Institute to pursue collaborative research
projects.
For the instructors of accepted courses, the Institute will cover the costs of
travel, housing, and food and will provide a small honorarium. Proposals to
co-teach courses are welcome, including proposals that split courses between
two instructors. For co-taught courses, expenses will be paid for both
instructors but the honorarium will be divided between the instructors.

Proposals should take the following form:
- a short course description (< 300 words)
- a brief explanation of the motivation for the course at this time (< 200
words)
- an outline of course topics or readings (to give us a sense of how you would
fit the topic would into a four week course)
- a brief statement of any synergistic activities related to the course. This
might include (among other possibilities): collaborators teaching (or
proposing) other courses, relationship of the course to workshops or other
events, and so on

Proposals should avoid overlap with courses already planned for the 2017
Institute. A list of planned courses is available at http://lsa2017.uky.edu

The deadline for receipt of course proposals: MAY 10, 2016.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through the eLinguistics Foundation,
which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal
Tax number is 45-4211155. These donations can be offset against
your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only).
For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial
advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the eLinguistics Foundation fills in and
returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
