Description:

Pending budgetary approval, the Department of Linguistics at the University of
Pittsburgh seeks applications for one position of Lecturer in
Sociolinguistics.  The initial contract begins on September 1, 2016 and runs
through April 30, 2017.

Qualification Requirements: 

PhD in Sociolinguistics. At least 3 years post-MA teaching experience. The
principal focus of this position is the running of the Department’s capstone
internship program for undergraduate majors. The ideal candidate should have a
strong background in sociolinguistics and be passionate about the relevance of
sociolinguistic insights for real-world challenges including those within
business, education, healthcare, legal system, media, and governmental
contexts in the local Pittsburgh area and beyond.  Candidates must have
demonstrated experience and success in networking with such entities. The
internship coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of our internship
program, including recruitment; web/social media promotion; student interviews
and selection; orientation; academic and professional advising; development
and execution of professional development activities/workshops; alumni
outreach and networking; community and professional outreach regarding
linguistics in the professions. The internship program is very closely tied to
our general advising of undergraduate students so the internship coordinator
will also be involved with advising. The position will involve responsibility
for teaching 2-3 classes in the Department each semester, with contact hours
not exceeding 9 hours per week.
