Meeting Description:

The 21st International Conference on Yue Dialects will be held at the Macao
Polytechnic Institute on December 12-13, 2016. The Conference is organized by
the Macao Yue Dialects Association and co-organized by the Language and
Culture Research Centre of Macao, Macao Polytechnic Institute. ''Crossing
Over'' is the theme and keyword of this year’s conference, with a view to
encouraging research beyond micro-linguistics. 


Call for Papers: 

We cordially invite both regional and international scholars and students to
submit abstracts on all areas of linguistics related to Cantonese and other
Yue dialects. We welcome, in particular, research that is multidisciplinary,
pluralistic, and comparative. Whereas topics in all areas of linguistics are
welcome, research related to the following topics or methodology would be
especially encouraged:

- studies on the varieties of Yue across multiple neighborhoods, cities and/or
regions
- comparative studies on Chinese dialects, primarily those in Southern China,
and their interrelationships with the Yue dialects
- crosslinguistic research that adopts quantitative, sociological, cultural,
and/or ethnographic approaches
- applied linguistics studies that go beyond pure theoretical linguistics.

Details of the Conference are as follows:

Submission of Abstracts 

Each presentation will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.

- All submitted abstracts can be written either in English or in Chinese, and
are limited to one single-spaced A4 page, with 1-inch margin all around. Use
font size 12 throughout. Any reference list must be included in the one-page
limit.

- The abstract should not contain the name(s) of the author(s) and the
affiliation(s), and must be submitted electronically to the Organizing
Committee by email at yue21macau at gmail.com

- Each anonymous abstract submitted must be in both MS Word format AND PDF
format. In addition, the electronic copy of the abstract should be saved by
using the title of the paper. 

- In the body of the email, please fill in the following information:

Institutional Affiliation(s)
Contact Address
E-mail address
Area of research (e.g., phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics,
pragmatics, discourse)
Title of the paper

-We will accept at most one single-authored work AND one joint-authored work
by an individual. 

- All abstracts will be reviewed anonymously. Only those abstracts that are
accepted are eligible for presentation.

- Submission Deadline: Friday, 2 September, 2016
- Notice of Acceptance: Friday, 7 October, 2016
