Description:

The Department of Languages and Linguistics at The University of Texas at El
Paso (UTEP) seeks applications for a new Chair. 

The department offers undergraduate degrees and minors in Spanish, French, and
Linguistics, masters’ degrees in Spanish and Linguistics, a minor in
Translation and Interpretation, a certificate in Brazilian Studies, and a
graduate certificate in Bilingual Professional Writing.  Languages taught
include Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, Latin, Greek, Arabic,
Persian, and Hebrew. 

Duties of the Chair include administration of the department, such as
preparing yearly budgets, meeting with faculty to follow up and assess the
development of the programs, reviewing course schedules, supervising program
directors and advisors, and engaging in follow up of the department’s
objectives. Other responsibilities include mentoring students and new faculty,
fostering interdepartmental collaboration, recruitment, and meeting with the
Dean of Liberal Arts on a regular basis to discuss departmental needs and
goals as well as new hires or program development.  Areas of specialization
and expertise of applicants may be in linguistics or in one of the
language/literature areas listed above.  

Candidates must be at the rank of Associate Professor or higher, have prior
administrative experience, and demonstrate a significant research agenda, as
evidenced in a substantive record of publications and indication of work in
progress.
