Description:

The English for Professional Purposes Intercultural Center (EPPIC) in the
Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University invites
applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to begin in July or August
2017.  EPPIC is a new university center that conducts research on academic
language and socialization practices among academic and professional units
across the university, provides advanced English language support services to
internationals, and promotes intercultural approaches to academic
communication.  The postdoctoral position involves research in English for
Academic Purposes (EAP)/English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and collaborative
design and implementation of curricular materials in advanced academic and
professional English.  The applicant`s research should focus on issues in
ESP/EAP, which may include but are not limited to: needs assessment for
advanced proficiency L2 English learners, in situ investigation of language
practices in disciplinary communities, qualitative/quantitative analysis of
spoken and/or written language corpora, language proficiency assessment,
multilingual writing pedagogy, and/or research-informed approaches to advanced
proficiency/ESP language pedagogy.
  
The candidate will benefit from linguistically and culturally diverse
colleagues including experts in World Englishes, TESL, Second Language
Acquisition, Corpus Linguistics, Language Teacher Education, Language & Aging,
Language Policy & Planning, Conversation Analysis, and Discourse Analysis in
the Department of Applied Linguistics.

Required Qualifications: 
- A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESL, Linguistics, English, Linguistic
Anthropology, Education, or related fields emphasizing English for Academic
Purposes and/or English for Specific Purposes, earned in the past two years
- An established research agenda in English for Academic Purposes and/or
English for Specific Purposes
- A minimum of three years of experience teaching academic or professional
English to adult multilinguals, preferably in a research university setting
- Superior command of academic written and spoken English
- Outstanding professional, interpersonal, and intercultural communication
skills.

This position is a 48-week appointment and may be renewable. Salary is
commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

Review of applications begins on April 5, 2017, and will continue until the
position is filled. Applicants should provide a cover letter, CV,
documentation of research and teaching experience, a writing sample, and a
teaching portfolio that includes a teaching philosophy, course syllabi,
evidence of teaching effectiveness, and student evaluations. Applicants should
identify three references on their CV who may be contacted to provide letters
of recommendation.
