Description:

The Institute of English Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is
seeking to appoint a

Professor (f/m) of English Linguistics 

(40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on
Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date March 1st 2018)

The successful candidate will represent English Linguistics in research and
teaching. The candidates’ main fields of research should complement the
Department’s strengths in cognitive neuroscience, phonetics and phonology,
pragmatics, textlinguistics and discourse analysis. This would, among other
things, include sociolinguistics and synchronic and diachronic variational
linguistics. Candidates are expected to combine theoretical innovation with
detailed empirical descriptive and analytical approaches. They will represent
this empirically- and functionally-oriented linguistic research profile,
adding a further important dimension to English Linguistics at the Department.
Candidates are also expected to establish cooperation with other
linguistically-oriented departments at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at
Graz University. Teaching within the newly-established curricula for teaching
degrees is expected. The candidate is expected to have a Habilitation or
equivalent qualification in English Linguistics and have an oustanding
publication record in the field. In addition, we expect gender mainstreaming
competence.
