University or Organization: Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS)
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Web Address: http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de
Job Title: Post Doc
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Syntax; Non-Indo-European languages

Description:

The Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS) invites applications for a
full-time early-career post-doctoral research position in syntax with a
starting date between November 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. The appointment is
till the end of 2019.

The ZAS is a research institute in the Leibniz Society. Its four main
divisions currently focus on the general research program 'Embedding, linkage
and constituent boundaries in speech, grammar and discourse',
http://www.zas.gwz-berlin.de. The opening is in area III, "Syntax and the
Lexicon", but ZAS also has active research groups in laboratory phonology,
language acquisition and multilingualism, and semantics and pragmatics that
are open for collaboration. The ZAS offers in-house experimental facilities
for acoustic phonetics, motion capture, eye-tracking (Tobii T60), and uses the
software R for data analysis.

The duties of the position are primarily research oriented which includes some
administration. Some time can be set aside for the acquisition of external
funding. In addition, the appointment carries a teaching load of one class (90
min./week) per year that can be held at any university in the Berlin area. The
position is remunerated according to E13 of the German TV-L pay-scale. Limited
support for conference travel, experimental work and/or linguistic fieldwork
is available.

Applicants must have defended their Ph.D. by the time of the appointment. The
Ph.D. completion should be in 2016 or after (except for documented cases of
forced interruptions of research work, e.g. for family or medical reasons).
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in theoretical
linguistics, specifically syntax or the syntax-morphology interface of
non-Indo-European languages, rooted in cross-linguistic (generative) theory.
Special consideration will be given to applicants whose research integrates
well with the existing strengths of the ZAS and its core research program in
area III, and brings along an expertise in the documentation of
understudied/under-described languages.

Applications must be submitted via electronic mail (artemis at leibniz-zas.de)
and include the following four items (1, 2 and 3 in PDF format): 1) a letter
of intent specifying research experience and plans in detail; 2) the
curriculum vitae including a complete list of publications; 3) electronic
copies of up to three representative publications; and 4) the names and email
addresses of at least two scholars to be contacted for letters of
recommendation.

Full consideration will be given to applications submitted by September 15,
2017.

Leibniz-ZAS is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from
female candidates.
