Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Victoria invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Indigenous
Language Revitalization, effective 1 May 2018.

The successful applicant will join a department that has a vibrant research
culture, with particular strengths in Indigenous languages of North America,
linguistic theory and description, applied linguistics and second language
acquisition, speech production and perception, community-based research, and
language variation and change. In addition to offering programs in Linguistics
and Applied Linguistics, we work in partnership with the Department of
Indigenous Education to offer Graduate Certificate and Master's programs in
Indigenous Language Revitalization, and with Continuing Studies and the
En'owkin Centre to offer an undergraduate Certificate in Aboriginal Language
Revitalization.

In accordance with the University's Equity Plan and pursuant to Section 42 of
the BC Human Rights Code, the selection will be limited to members of the
following designated group(s): aboriginal peoples. Candidates from the
group(s) are encouraged to self-identify.

The University of Victoria is a top-ranked research university located on the

its large and diverse group of Indigenous faculty and staff originating from
local communities and around the world. The University has introduced its

The responsibilities of this position include supervising Master’s and
doctoral students and teaching courses in our undergraduate and graduate
programs in Linguistics and in the Graduate Certificate and Master’s programs
in Indigenous Language Revitalization. We seek an individual with the ability
to contribute strongly to the research profile of the Department and its
teaching and administrative functions. Collaborative, interdisciplinary
research, teaching, and program development are also encouraged.
