Description:

The Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts and Science (St. George
Campus) at the University of Toronto invites applications for two one-year
contractually limited term (CLTA) appointments. One appointment is in the area
of Phonology. The other appointment is in the area of Sociolinguistics, with a
secondary specialization in Phonetics. Both appointments will be at the rank
of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2019. 

The successful candidates must have earned a PhD in Linguistics by the date of
appointment. Candidates must have a record of excellence in research, and a
demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching in the area of Phonology for
the first appointment and Sociolinguistics, with a secondary specialization in
Phonetics, for the second appointment. Evidence of excellence in research can
be demonstrated by publications in top ranked, field relevant journals, or
forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, presentations
at significant conferences, and strong endorsements from referees of high
standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching can be documented through the
applicant’s CV, a strong statement of teaching philosophy, teaching
accomplishments, teaching evaluations, and strong endorsements by referees of
high standing. The appointees will be expected to teach and supervise
undergraduate and graduate students in their area of specialization as well as
teach in other areas as determined by the department.
