Meeting Description:

This conference, organized by the International Association of Language and
Social Psychology (IALSP), brings together scholars who investigate language
in many social contexts, using quantitative or qualitative methods. Research
in this field is multi-disciplinary, with particularly strong contributions
from communication studies and communicology, social psychology,
sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics. It focuses on the perceptions,
motivations, norms and contextual factors that influence interactants in the
communication process, as well as on language and communication behavior and
its consequences. For more details about language and social psychology, visit

Guidelines:

Proposals accepted for ICLASP16 will be presented in concurrent sessions. Each
concurrent session will be one and a half (1.5) hours in length. Sessions can
be in two types: symposia or individual papers. Individual papers will be
combined into themed sessions by ICLASP’s Scientific Committee. Alternatively,
individual papers may be presented in a poster format.

Call for Papers:

Proposal Guidelines:

All symposia and individual papers must pertain to the social psychology of
language and communication.

Please note that preference will be given to presentations of research
findings and theoretical advancements pertaining to language and social
psychology. All proposals will be peer reviewed and presenters will be
notified of the decision for acceptance by March 15, 2018 (extended).

Symposia:

Symposia should be composed of a chair and either three presentations and a
discussant, or four presentations, as decided by the symposium chair.
Presentations within the symposia must address a common topic or theme.

Symposia will be 80 minutes maximum, including question period, and will be
scheduled according to conference needs.

Symposia submissions should contain:

- The name and complete contact information for the symposium chair
(corresponding author)
- A 250 word (maximum) introduction to the theme and content of the symposium
- An indication of the symposium’s length (we recommend 4 papers per 1.5 hour
session), and the roles of all participants (chair, discussant, presenting
author, co-author)
- A list of the individual presentations in order of presentation, including
the title and abstract for each oral presentation (120 words maximum),
presenting author, and the name, affiliation, and email address of each
presenter. A typical symposium will include at least 4 presenters.

Individual Paper Presentations:

Two types of individual paper presentations are available: oral presentations
or interactive (poster) presentations. You will be asked to indicate your
preferred presentation type in your submission form. Please note that all
effort will be made to accommodate your preference, but we reserve the right
to change your individual presentation type depending on scheduling needs. If
a change in presentation type occurs, authors will be contacted to confirm any
changes.

Oral presentations must be no longer than 20 minutes (including time for
questions from the audience) and will be scheduled during one of the planned
concurrent sessions by the conference organizers based on common presentation
topics and scheduling needs.

Interactive (poster) presentations allow presenters and attendees to engage in
extended discussions regarding the author’s presentation that is in
illustrated format on a poster board.  Poster boards are 8’ high, with a
surface of 4’ x 6’, and are placed in rows in a large hall. Interactive
(poster) presentations will be scheduled for the full duration of a conference
day and presenters are asked to be present for their assigned session and
during breaks (not including the lunch break).

Individual paper submissions should contain:

- The names and complete contact information for all authors
- A clear indication of which author(s) will present the paper;
- The title of the paper;
- An abstract (maximum 250 words);
- An indication of authors’ preference for an oral presentation or an
interactive (poster) presentation.

Submissions sent via email will not be accepted

Ensure that your proposal is fully prepared before copying it to the online
submission site.
You may save your submission and return to make edits. Clicking the submit
button will finish and lock your submission.
Keep a copy of your proposal (as it was submitted).
Deadline for proposal submissions is (extended to) Tuesday, February 20, 2018
at 11:59 PM Mountain Time.
