The Faculty of Arts at KU Leuven (Belgium) has a full-time vacancy for senior
academic staff in the domain of business communication. We are looking for
candidates who are internationally oriented, have excellent teaching
competence and an excellent research record.

Your task will consist of academic teaching, research and service at the
crossroads of business communication and sociolinguistics.

Research:
You will develop a coherent research programme at the crossroads of business
communication studies and sociolinguistics, in which you are expected to
obtain outstanding scientific results of an international level. 

Teaching:
Your teaching assignment constitutes the following courses and tasks:
- Business Communication
- Linguistic perspectives on communication strategies
- Sociolinguistics
- Supervision of internships of MA students in Business Communication
- Supervision of master’s and bachelor’s dissertations.

Service:
You are prepared to take on internal administrative and management duties,
specifically in a leading role within the MA programme in Business
Communication, and to assist in intensifying the relations between the
programmes and the professional field.
 
Requirements:
- You hold a PhD in Linguistics (or an equivalent relevant degree).
- You have outstanding teaching qualities, and you have an excellent research
record in the domain of business communication and/or sociolinguistics. The
quality of your research is evidenced by high-level international
publications.
- You have organisational skills and have a collegial spirit.
- Knowledge of Dutch is not a prerequisite to apply, although upon appointment
the candidate has to learn Dutch in 3 to 5 years (depending on the rank of
appointment)

Your application file should include a fully developed research proposal for
the coming years (maximally two pages) and a profile statement outlining your
view on teaching (maximally two pages).
The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not
speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven
will provide language training to enable you to take part in administrative
meetings. Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, you will be given the
opportunity to learn Dutch respectively English to the required standard.

Offer:
Depending on your qualifications, you will be appointed in one of the degrees
of the senior academic staff: assistant professor, associate professor,
professor, full professor. As a rule, junior researchers are appointed as
assistant professors with a tenure track of five years. Upon positive
evaluation, they are promoted to associate professor.
