Description:
STEP Spring School takes a practical hands-on training approach and is
directed at postdocs, graduate and advanced undergraduate students, and anyone
else - more senior researchers and faculty - interested in learning how to
turn their research ideas into concrete steps towards experimental designs,
data collection, and analysis using advanced experimental and statistical
methods. This is the fifth year in the series and we would like to welcome you
to Edmonton to check out the course selection and to meet this year's
instructors:

Harald Baayen (University of Tübingen) – Computational modeling of lexical
processing with naive discriminative learning

Emmanuel Keuleers (Tilburg University) – People, words, and records: A
transaction-based view on language processing

Aki-Juhani Kyröläinen (McMaster University) & Vincent Porretta (University of
Windsor) – Introduction to linear mixed-effects modeling in R*

Gary Libben (Brock University) – Building and combining your own behavioural
psycholinguistic techniques for pure and applied research

Vincent Porretta (University of Windsor) – Introduction to R*

Debra Titone (McGill University) & Jason Gullifer (McGill University) –
Capitalizing on our communicative & neurocognitive diversity: A selective
overview of why and how we study individual differences in language processing

Benjamin V. Tucker (University of Alberta) – Using speech in
psycholinguistics: From speech synthesis to spoken word recognition

Jacolien Van Rij (Groningen University) & Juhani Järvikivi (University of
Alberta) – Exploring eye-tracking methods in spoken language research

In addition, we will also be offering a day-long intensive Advanced
Statistical Workshop on Generalized Additive Mixed Models on Saturday May
19th. In order to cover the lunch and snacks/drinks, there will be a nominal
fee of $20 for participants who wish to participate in this class.

*Note: for the first time in STEP history, we will be offering certification
for these courses.
