Description:

The Institut de Recherche en Informatique de Toulouse (IRIT,
https://www.irit.fr/) at Toulouse University (south west France) is offering a
three-years PhD grant available from October 1st 2018 on Natural language
Processing. The PhD will join the MELODI team
(https://www.irit.fr/-MELODI-Team-?lang=en) a highly internationally
recognized group working on NLP and knowledge representation. The PhD student
will also work in collaboration with communication scientists from the
MediaPolis team at Laboratoire d'tudes et de Recherches Appliques en Sciences
Sociales (LERASS, https://www.lerass.com/).

The candidate will work on Hate Speech Detection in Social Media continuing
our previous work on sentiment analysis and irony detection.

Candidate specification:
We are looking for an excellent student with a Master degree in computer
science or a related, relevant discipline. The ideal candidate should have:
- Experience in Natural Language Processing, Machine learning and information
extraction from social media
- Experience in sentiment/emotion analysis will be a plus
- Strong programming skills in Python/Java
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English
- French knowledge is a plus.

Salary:
The PhD will be funded by a grant from Universit Fdrale de Toulouse with a
salary of 1420 euros/month after taxes.
