Description:

The University of South Florida invites applications for Professor and Chair
of the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) within the
College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in communication sciences and disorders or a
related field and qualify for appointment as a full professor. They should
have an internationally recognized research program that complements
departmental strengths. A strong history of extramural funding is required for
the position.  

Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of successful academic
leadership, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and
mentorship of students and faculty.  

The successful candidate will lead our growing department to continued
excellence and national recognition. The candidate will be expected to provide
exceptional vision, leadership, and administrative direction to the
Department, while fostering a culture of excellence in interdisciplinary
research, scholarship, teaching, and service to the community and the
profession.
 
The Chair will:
- Advocate for University, community, and extramural support for the
Department
- Advance the strategic plans of the Department, College, and University, to
promote the standing and reputation of the Department nationally and
internationally
- Pursue development opportunities, and work collaboratively with other
disciplines and programs within the College and the University
- Promote continued dedication to the Department’s faculty, student, and
educational program diversity.

CSD has a diverse portfolio of funded research from NIH, NSF, Department of
Defense, Department of Education, and Industry sponsors complimented by a
strong body of clinical, research, and academic faculty. The interdisciplinary
faculty are engaged in basic, applied, and translational research that include
areas such as language, literacy, and bilingualism, speech and voice
perception and production, communication device development, device and drug
evaluation, neuroscience, neurogenics, and molecular biology. The department
has partnerships with biomedical engineering, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center
and Research Institute, the USF Morsani College of Medicine, the Byrd
Alzheimer’s Institute, the Global Center for Hearing and Speech Research, and
the Rightpath Research and Innovation Center.

CSD has over 250 graduate students and 500 undergraduate students in four
degree programs: Bachelor’s with three possible concentrations, Master’s in
Speech-Language Pathology, Doctor of Audiology, and Doctor of Philosophy. The
Department trains future professionals and serves the Tampa Bay community
through the USF Hearing Clinic, USF Speech-Language Clinic, Bolesta Center at
USF (Listening and Spoken Language Center), and Hands On USF (sign language
interpreting service).
