Description:

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics in the Faculty of
Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, York University invites applications for
a teaching-stream (alternate stream) tenure-track position in General
Linguistics at the rank of Assistant Lecturer, to commence July 1, 2019. This
is a teaching-intensive appointment and the successful candidate will be
expected to teach and develop undergraduate courses.  

A PhD in Linguistics is required. We are seeking a candidate who is familiar
with generative approaches, has a strong background in core areas of
linguistics, especially in phonetics/phonology, and can teach a significant
number of courses from the following: 
- Introduction to Linguistics, 
- Language and Mind, 
- Introduction to Speech and Language Sciences, 
- Sociolinguistics, Phonetics (both articulatory and acoustic), 
- Phonology, and 
- Language Acquisition (both first and second). 

The Linguistics Section is in the process of developing a new undergraduate
degree program in Speech and Language Sciences and the successful candidate
should be able to contribute to this program. The successful candidate will
demonstrate excellence in teaching university-level courses and have a strong
commitment to pedagogy and student success. Pedagogical innovation in
experiential education and technology enhanced learning is preferred as is
experience with curriculum development and design. The successful candidate is
also expected to provide evidence of service or potential to contribute to
service in administrative and committee work.
