Introduction:

Language does change in a society and is affected by the government’s language
policy. Some countries or regions were under the administration of a major
power hence their education was conducted by the dominant’s language. Some
countries or regions are independent but employ the language of a major power
for education. What is the current situation of the indigenous languages in
these areas? Has the indigenous language been revived after being released
from colonization? If the indigenous language is influenced by the dominant
power’s language or another language, what are the influences?

This book will cover sociolinguistic analysis and linguistic analysis,
discussing the acquisition, maintenance, or loss of the indigenous languages
and the language policy.

Objectives:

This book will aim to provide relevant overviews and the latest field research
findings in the area. It will discuss maintenance, attrition, or loss of the
