Description:

The Center for World Languages and Cultures will hire a Teaching Assistant
Professor of Spanish for appointment to begin September 1, 2020. This is a
teaching track position with full benefits and initial three-year contract;
contract is renewable and promotion is possible.  

Essential Functions:
Coordination:
- Coordination of beginning Spanish sequence 
- Oversight of placement assessment and advising for incoming students 
- Assessment of the Common Curriculum language requirement  
- Mentoring and supervision of the first-year teaching team, including
adjuncts
- Collaboration with Spanish department liaison to ensure cohesion and
articulation of curriculum 

Teaching:
- Teach first-year Spanish courses (three levels on the quarter system) 
- Potential opportunities to teach upper-level Spanish courses and general
education First-year Seminars 
- Annual teaching load is eight classes on a quarter calendar, with course
releases for coordination and administrative duties 

Service:
- Participation in departmental meetings and committees  
- Participation in program promotional activities outside the classroom  
- Some opportunities for participation in service outside of the department  

Research/Scholarship:
Active scholarship that relates directly to one's teaching is encouraged but
not required.  

Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Spanish, Second Language Acquisition and Teaching,
Curriculum and Instruction, Linguistics, or related field
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English  
- Experience teaching Spanish language and culture to undergraduate students
in the United States  
- Experience in program assessment of language learning 
- Experience in supervision of other instructors 
- Experience in developing and managing curricula  

Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Spanish, Second Language Acquisition and Teaching, Curriculum
and Instruction, Linguistics, or related field 
- Extended linguistic and cultural immersion experience 
- Demonstrated experience and accomplishments in active support of diversity
and inclusiveness  
- Experience working with modified language instruction/students with learning
differences
