Description:

The Liberal Arts Program at Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ)
(https://www.qatar.tamu.edu/programs/liberal-arts/) invites applications for
two full-time faculty positions in English at the rank of Associate Professor
or Assistant Professor. Both positions will have a 9-month academic
appointment with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2020. Appointees at
the rank of Associate Professor serve with multi-year, rolling contracts.
Appointees at the rank of Assistant Professor are eligible for promotions to
positions with rolling contracts based on research, teaching, and service
after a probationary period.  The Liberal Arts Program is committed to a
culturally and academically diverse faculty, and candidates who would enhance
the Liberal Arts Program’s diversity are encouraged to apply. 

Rolling contract and rolling contract-track faculty members at TAMUQ are
expected to pursue programs of independent scholarly research along with
teaching and service activities. The successful candidates will have records
of scholarly publications and/or potential for scholarly publications in their
fields of expertise appropriate to their rank. Depending on areas of
specialization, appointees may teach courses in technical and business
writing, composition and rhetoric, and/or Foundations of English, an
integrated sequence of courses focused on developing competency in academic
reading, writing, and oral communication. There may also be opportunities to
teach core curriculum elective courses.

The typical teaching load is 2:1 for rolling contract and rolling
contract-track professors. All faculty are also expected to be active in
appropriate service activities. Collaborative pedagogical and research
projects with faculty members in TAMUQ’s engineering programs and in other
institutions are encouraged.

Texas A&M University at Qatar offers a competitive salary package commensurate
with rank and experience. The package includes housing, annual home leave
allowances, dependent education, local transportation allowance, medical
insurance for employee and dependents, plus appropriate relocation and
repatriation expenses. Faculty members are also eligible for start-up packages
and professional development funds to help them with teaching, curriculum
development, and research activities.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a record of peer-reviewed scholarly
publications or demonstrated potential for peer-reviewed scholarly
publications in the applicant’s field of expertise.

PhD is required by August 2020 in English, Technical Writing, Writing Studies,
or Rhetoric and Composition. Additional qualifications in L2 Writing, Applied
Linguistics, or TESOL are welcome.
