Description:

Texas Tech University, a vibrant research institution with 37,000 students,
invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in applied
linguistics & second language studies, to begin Fall 2020. Specific area of
specialization is open. Texas Tech University is a Carnegie Research I
institution, and recently surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold
necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

The preferred candidate will have at least two years of experience teaching
courses in language and/or language sciences, broadly conceived, in higher
education settings, with a record of excellence. The candidate will teach
M.A.-level applied linguistics courses, and will also be involved in
departmental initiatives to expand applied linguistics courses to the
undergraduate level. Depending on language of expertise, the candidate will
possibly coordinate and mentor graduate part-time instructors. Preference
given to a specialist in Japanese/Asian languages. We seek a candidate with a
well-defined research agenda, whose applied linguistics research and teaching
interests complement those of existing faculty with respect to specialization
areas and research paradigms.

Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation
students is highly desirable. Candidates who have very strong records of
scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity
or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech
University are encouraged to apply. Service to the department, college, and
university is expected. The candidate must have the Ph.D. in hand by the date
of appointment.
