University or Organization: Beijing Language and Culture University
Department: Department of Linguistics
Job Location: Beijing, Haidian, China, China
Web Address: http://linguistics.blcu.edu.cn
Job Title: Post-Doc
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics; Language Acquisition; Neurolinguistics; Psycholinguistics; Syntax

Description:

Beijing Language and Culture University offers full funding for multiple
post-doctoral researchers in any areas of:
- Syntax,
- Language Acquisition
- Neurolinguistics
- Psycholinguistics
- Discourse analysis
- Pragmatics

and their interfaces. The post-doctoral research will be carried out as part
of the graduate programme language and brain sciences (including theoretical
linguistics and biolinguistics divisions) at the department of linguistics at
Beijing Language and Culture University, funded by the university. The
position is funded for 2 - 3 years.

The central research focus of the program is on the syntax of natural
languages, including but not limited on syntactic cartography. There is also a
concern about language cognition related to syntax. It is believed that the
different syntactic zones in the cartography might be acquired at different
ages. And the relevant order of the different layers can be detected by
conducting relevant experiments at both early children’s acquisition and
language aging and language impairments.

The post-doctoral candidates are encouraged to pursue research that is based
on different grammatical models (and potentially also on combinations
thereof), such as Minimalist Program, syntactic cartography, language
typology, biolinguistics, and other branches of theoretical linguistics. The
programme will provide a unique opportunity of conducting linguistic research
in an academically rigorous environment that is not pre-biased toward one or
other theoretical framework. Detailed information about the research
programme, including a list of the programme's faculty can be found here:
http://linguistics.blcu.edu.cn.

Application Requirements:
Ideal candidates have a proven research record in grammatical theory,
peer-reviewed publications, and international visibility. Researchers from
international backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. Prior
knowledge of Chinese is not required. Applicants should have a PhD in
linguistics, with degree in hand latest by October, 2019. The position starts
on October 1, 2019.

Supporting Documents:
- Statement of purpose (up to 2 pages) that clarifies the research interests
of the applicant and details the nature of the project the candidate intends
to pursue within the post-doctoral position, with particular focus on how this
will fit in with the larger research goals of the BLCU department research
programme: written in English or Chinese.
- Two representative samples of research work
- Two letters of recommendation
- Curriculum Vitae (CV), including a full list of publications
- Copy of PhD degree (if available).

All supporting documents for the application should be emailed electronically
as pdf files to Professor Fuzhen Si at the application email provided below
with the subject line: postdoc-BLCU. The recommendation letters should be
emailed directly to this address by the referees.
