The competitively paid position is based in Cambridge, UK.

As a TTS Language Engineer, you will work alongside other Language Engineers,
Software Developers and Speech Scientists who are subject matter experts in
speech synthesis and related fields. You are expected to have solid knowledge
of linguistics, in particular knowledge of phonetics/phonology. You will be
working on a variety of tasks to improve textual processing and TTS voice
quality.

The tasks include: 
- Normalizing textual resources through regular expressions 
- Creating natural language rules and test cases for natural language
processing modules 
- Contribute to the formalization of language models through in-depth
knowledge of phonetic, phonological and morphosyntactic aspects of the target
languages
- Automate and coordinate the creation of lexicons and phonetic transcriptions
- QA and evaluation of TTS voices and linguistic data
- Partnering with Speech Scientists and Software Developers to develop and
maintain deep learning models

Basic Qualifications:
- High degree of fluency in Hindi
- High degree of fluency in English
- Ability to read and write Devanagari
- Solid knowledge of phonetics and phonology
- Ability to create and fix phonetic transcriptions (e.g. x-sampa, IPA)
- Knowledge of regular expressions
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python)
- Familiarity with software version control tools (e.g. Git)
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux command line tools

Preferred Qualifications:
- Native speaker of Hindi
- Native speaker of one or several Indic languages
- Degree in Linguistics, with specialization in Phonetics, Phonology,
Computational Linguistics or similar, or Software Development
- Solid communication skills
- Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new
technologies related to foreign languages, linguistics, phonetics, phonology
and language technology
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work
environment
