Description:

Tenure Track Professorship in Romance Philology/Linguistics of the Spanish
Language with a focus on Sociolinguistics Salary grade: Initially W 2, 5
years; after evaluation W 3 with tenure Reference Code: PhilG_160276

The successful applicant will cover the area named above in research and
teaching.

Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher
Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Successful candidates will have a research focus on the study of the Spanish
language system, specializing in sociolinguistics based on contemporary
theories. She or he will have an additional research focus in one or more of
the following subject areas: research of multilinguism; language acquisition,
or linguistic change. The professor will demonstrate research and teaching
expertise in at least one additional Romance language and have an excellent
international track record in research and university teaching. Furthermore,
she or he will have experience in acquiring funding for, and carrying out,
externally funded research.

Apart from the official duties in accordance with Article 99 of the Berlin
Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following
activities:

The appointee will participate in the development of third party funded
research projects and research alliances of the department. She or he will
furthermore develop international collaboration in research and teaching and
will teach in all of the degree programs of the department that are concerned
with linguistics, especially in the newly established bachelor program
Language and Society. Teaching and research will include aspects of gender and
diversity approaches. Missing German language skills will need to be acquired
within three years.

The professor will be appointed as a civil servant for an initial period of
five years. Under the condition that the appointee passes the tenure
evaluation, upon its expiry the tenure track professorship entails appointment
to the tenured position which will not be advertised. Objectives for this
evaluation will be negotiated during the appointment procedure for the tenure
track professorship (according to Article 102 c BerlHG).

The objectives to be agreed upon will include (but are not limited to) the
following areas:
- Research
- Teaching
- Support of junior scholars
- Academic self-governance
- Personnel leadership
- Language proficiency

The conditions of employment according to civil service law must be fulfilled
at the time of the tenure appointment.

Applications should include a CV, copies of all certificates of academic
qualification in German or English; if applicable the letter of appointment
(please add translations if needed), a list of publications, a list of courses
previously taught, and evidence of teaching competence. Furthermore, please
include information on involvement in ongoing and future research endeavors,
joint research projects and externally funded projects, and if necessary
language certificates. If applicable for the respective content area, please
give information on industrial cooperation, inventions/patents and spin-offs.
