Assistant Professor of Spanish, Translation (Spanish-English)

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for an Assistant
Professor of Spanish in the field of Translation (Spanish/English) beginning
August 2020.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Spanish, Spanish Linguistics, Translation
Studies, or related area and have native or near-native fluency in English and
Spanish. This position may involve night, weekend, and electronic course
delivery.

The successful candidate will have proven leadership skills to coordinate our
newly implemented Applied Spanish Program in a highly collegial environment.
Evidence of ability to establish connections with the community and recruit
students is highly desirable.

This position encompasses curriculum development as well as the establishment
of necessary connections with other departments and the local community at
large. The position involves a 3/3 teaching load, including courses in the
field of Translation, Interpreting, and Spanish for the professions (business,
medical, technical, and legal), as well as lower- and intermediate Spanish
courses and Spanish Composition and Conversation.

The successful candidate must be a quality teacher, scholar, and citizen of
the academy, to be demonstrated through a variety of student learning outcomes
(especially students’ evaluations), refereed publications, and service on
local and professional committees. Experience with Service-Learning programs
is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated sensitivity to
language variation and a commitment to teach and serve Hispanic populations in
South Texas. Experience with and interest in developing online teaching tools
and a strong commitment to undergraduate Liberal Arts education are also
preferred.
