Description:

The Department of English, Glendon College, York University invites
applications for a teaching-stream, tenure-track appointment in English as a
Second Language (ESL) at the rank of Assistant Professor, to commence July 1,
2020. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and may
also teach graduate courses, providing creative educational leadership in
enhancing ESL teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical
innovation in the classroom. The successful candidate will serve as
coordinator of Glendon’s ESL Program and will also be required to teach in the
Glendon College Certificate Program in the Discipline of Teaching English as
an International Language (D-TEIL). Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to
budgetary approval.

A completed Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Second/Additional Language,
Second/Additional Language Education, Applied Linguistics or in a related
discipline is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence
or clear potential for excellence in teaching content-based, credit ESL in
university-level courses. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a
strong commitment to pedagogy and student success and the capacity to bring a
theoretical and practical orientation to ESL teaching, learning and program
design. A record of pedagogical innovation in high priority areas such as
experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based
learning is preferred as is experience with ESL curriculum development and
assessment.

Preference will be given to those with experience teaching ESL/EAL teacher
preparation courses as well as coordinating language programs. The successful
candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or
potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work. Given
Glendon’s bilingual mandate, the successful candidate must also be able to
participate actively in College-wide committee work in French as well as
English.
