Description:

Expert System USA is a provider of text analytics technology to US public
sector clients. Our semantically-driven linguistic solutions assist Federal,
state, and local agencies in fields such as intelligence, law enforcement, and
homeland security. We are seeking a junior knowledge engineer for a full-time
position operating from the company offices in Alexandria, Virginia. 

Knowledge engineers create and deploy linguistic projects using our patented
Cogito technology platform. The Expert System brand of software supports
detailed analysis of large volumes of strategic data to transform the way our
clients find, comprehend, and use information. 

Responsibilities:
- Develop mastery of our technology and implement natural language processing
solutions
- Provide insights into working with complex, heterogeneous data
- Identify appropriate methods and tools to process text in response to client
requirements
- Provide feedback for the technical team to create and improve software tools
and utilities 
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and remote teams to deliver project
requirements
- Maintain regular interaction with clients to support project development and
understand emerging needs that can be addressed by our technology

Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, language, or other social science or
liberal arts field
- Strong interest in linguistics and language technology
- Basic level of technical knowledge, such as introductory coursework or
self-study in computer programming, statistics, data science, or similar
field; experience working with specialized programs such as annotation
software or search applications; or a strong familiarity with formal logic
- Ability to solve linguistic data problems
- Ability to take initiative in job assignments
- Strong time management skills to allow for handling multiple action items
and tasks simultaneously
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including native or
near-native proficiency in English
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and experience working face-to-face
with clients
- Cooperative and dependable nature, with an ability to be supportive of
others in a cross-functional team
- Ethical-mindedness and commitment to serving public sector clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google products
- US citizenship is required for this position 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience with public sector agencies or organizations,
particularly in the intelligence field
- Knowledge of content management practices or experience in creating and
managing taxonomies
- Proficiency in a foreign language (especially Russian, Korean, or Mandarin
Chinese)
- Experience in interdisciplinary or cross-cultural studies
- Additional major or minor in physics, biology, or chemistry
- Active security clearance, preferably TS/SCI with CI poly
