Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant
Professor or Instructor working in the MATESL program for Spring, 2020. The
successful candidate will teach in the MATESL program, where they will be
involved in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Applicants at the Visiting Assistant Professor level are also expected to have
an active research agenda, mentor students, and engage in service activities
appropriate to academic rank. Responsibilities include teaching 3 classes in
areas such as TESL methodology, SLA, and English Grammar. Target starting date
is January 1, 2020. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
For those applying at the Visiting Assistant Professor level, a PhD in TESL,
Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or a related area is required.

For those applying at the Instructor level, an Master’s degree in one of those
areas is required with ABD status preferred. A PhD in hand no later than
December 31st, 2019 is preferred.

Candidates must have experience teaching English to non-native speakers of the
language.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following: Experience in
teaching TESL-related pedagogy courses at the university level; Evidence of
continuing professional development; Demonstrated evidence of excellence in
teaching, ideally via course evaluations.
