Description:

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Linguistics invites applications
for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), specializing in
applied linguistics and TESOL, beginning September 1, 2020.

Essential qualifications include:
- PhD in linguistics or applied linguistics by the time of appointment, or an
allied field such as psychology or education.
- A research program, evidenced by a strong publication record, featuring a
focus on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
- Ability to teach one or more of the following courses: language assessment,
computer-assisted language learning (CALL), teaching English across cultures.
- Evidence of connecting cutting-edge theory with practice in applied
linguistics.

Desired qualifications -- applicants with one of more of the following will be
ranked more highly:
- Expertise in language testing, language technology, or computer-assisted
language learning (CALL)
- Expertise in corpus linguistics research methods (analysis using PRAAT or
tools for corpus analysis of morpho-syntax)
- Expertise in a core area of linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology,
or syntax.
- A TESOL research focus on speakers from diverse cultural and linguistic
backgrounds (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and
Spanish).
- A research or teaching focus on TESOL professional practice that enhances
language teaching, learning, or communication.
