Description:

The Department of Linguistics and TESOL at The University of Texas at
Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of
Assistant Professor in Phonetics and Phonology, to begin in Fall of 2020.

Successful applicants will have a PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in
Linguistics by the time of appointment, with college-level teaching experience
and evidence of success and continued promise in publishing. The candidate
should have a research focus that complements existing faculty expertise and
also demonstrates the potential to contribute to the department’s research
profile and its teaching mission.

The successful candidate will contribute to existing strengths in the
department but will also add to those strengths in new and substantive ways
and will contribute breadth and depth to the undergraduate and graduate
curricula, including the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The
successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff
from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. Successful candidates
are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education
through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service.

In addition to teaching the phonetics and phonology classes that we currently
offer, we are interested in a colleague whose teaching could support
additional undergraduate and graduate courses. These might include topics
related to speech language pathology or language acquisition, acoustic
phonetics, descriptive field work, or research methods. In the area of
research, we are especially interested in candidates whose work in phonetics
and phonology interfaces with fields such as syntax, semantics, pragmatics,
psycholinguistics, or second language studies. Potential hires with a
successful track record in or plan underway for external grants are of
particular interest.

The expected teaching load of tenure-track faculty in the department is 2-2.
Our department offers four graduate programs (a PhD in linguistics, an MA in
Linguistics, an MA in TESOL, and a Graduate Certificate in TESOL), as well as
a growing BA in Linguistics. The University of Texas at Arlington is an R-1
doctoral-granting university focused on doctoral production, undergraduate
success, and extramural funding. A research-intensive public institution of
nearly 60,000 students, UT Arlington has a highly diverse student population,
including qualifying as a Hispanic-serving institution. We are located in the
dynamic Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which offers has a wide variety of
cultural, recreational, and entertainment options.

To apply, go to the application link provide below and submit the following
materials:
- CV,

recommendation.

Application materials should arrive by Nov. 15, 2019 for fullest
consideration.

American annual meeting in New Orleans in early January, either in person or
via Skype.
