Description:

A non-tenured appointment at the rank of lecturer is intended in the area of
American Sign Language instruction.  Job duties include teaching three
undergraduate classes per quarter in ASL and/or Deaf Culture and maintaining
an active presence in the Deaf community as a representative of the
department.  Duties include evaluation of students for placement within the
program, commitment to program enrichment, being involved in all activities
related to teaching and advising and working with fellow faculty and
researchers in the department and university. This appointment will be for a
three year term with the decision to renew beyond the initial three years at
the end of year two. This is a 100% FTE appointment (three quarters per year)
with a 9-month service period and begins September 16th, 2020.

Qualifications:
Required:
Master degree or foreign equivalent is required in Linguistics, ASL studies,
ASL education, Deaf education, or a related field.

Duties will be best fulfilled by candidates who are native or near-native
signers of ASL and have teaching certification from the ASL Teachers
Association in hand at the time of the appointment. Three years experience
teaching ASL at the post-secondary level is required. A rating of 4 or higher
is required for ASL Proficiency Interview.
