Seeking a creative, collaborative, and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow
to join the School's Korean program.

The School of Languages and Cultures is one of the largest Schools of language
instruction in Australia with over 52 academic staff.

The School teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese,
Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to
students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the
university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual
degree programs.

At postgraduate level the School offers a Master of Arts in in Applied
Linguistics and two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and
Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese). Staff research and
supervise PhD students in linguistics, second language studies, translation
and interpreting, studies in culture, and related fields.

About This Opportunity:
The purpose of this position is to engage in independent research in an area
of Korean language, (applied) linguistics, communication, cultural studies,
digital media, literature, translation and interpreting, or related fields.
The successful applicant is expected to perform high-quality scholarly
research as well as make a limited contribution to teaching, administrative
and other activities in the Korean program and the School.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one
of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from
Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with
outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a
perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant
campus with the tradition of an established university.

For US applicants, please note that Australian Universities use British
terminology, as such a Lecturer (Level B) position is equivalent to that of an
Assistant Professor position in the US.

Our Ideal Candidate:
With a PhD (or near completed PhD) in an area of Korean language, (applied)
linguistics, communication, cultural studies, digital media, literature,
translation and interpreting, or related fields and excellent interpersonal
skills, you will also have the following skillset:
- Track record of peer-reviewed research publications in one (or more) of the
fields above;
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills, including the ability to
consult with researchers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds; and
- Commitment to upholding the University’s values.
